Notes for Elizabeth Harman
The following are marriages to William Gardham:
1) Elizabeth Harman 10/10/1757 in S. Cave
2) Joanna Hill 12/11/1764 in S. Cave (but this is after the birth of Roger so this can’t be it)
3) Mary Thurlow 12/4/1764 in S. Cave (again this is after Roger’s birth, could be a second wife, clearly there are two William Garhams around S. Cave at this time as marriages 2 and 3 are within a week of each other)
4) Wm Girdam m Esther Reed on 5/15/1758 in West Halton 19 miles away (name spelling and distance argue against this one)
Seems fairly safe to conclude that marriage #1 to Elizabeth Harman is correct give that it is in S. Cave, prior to Roger’s birth, and has the correct spelling of Gardham for the groom.
If it is Elizabeth Harman, there appears to be one viable baptismal candidates
1) Elizabeth Harmon bp1724 in Mappleton (27 miles from S. Cave) father WIlliam - this puts her at 33 when married and 39 when Roger was born. Its all possible but distance and age makes me somewhat skeptical of this being our Elizabeth.
Note: Elizabeth Harman bp 1739 in Snaith was buried there in the same year.
