John E. Bret, 78, Jefferson City, died Jan. 21, 2003, at Jefferson City Manor Care. He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Bonnots Mill, a son of William and Wilma Kloeppel Bret.
He was a lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area and graduated from St. Peters High School in Jefferson City. He received a degree in engineering from the University of Missouri. He worked as an engineer with Ameren UE until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of VFW Roy Sone Post 1003, the American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and the Society of Professional Engineers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include: one son, Allen Bret, Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Lauren Bret Sullens, Jefferson City; two sisters, Carolyn Benz, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Mary Freitag, York Harbor, Maine; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Freeman Mortuary. David Scott will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday. Memorials are suggested to American Parkinson Disease Association.
