Vern, 93, went Home to be with the Lord October 28, 2006 at Union Printers' Home. He was born December 8, 1912 in Riverside, California, to Joseph and Retta (Shermer) Ewers. His parents, three brothers, and a sister preceded him in death. He is survived by three daughters: Marilyn Asbell, Aloha Grant, and Karen Scott; five granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. Living in California, Ohio, Nevada, and Hawaii, Vern spent his last six years here in Colorado Springs. During his life, Vern outlived four wives, the last being Norma Dixon Gill. They married here at Sunridge Retirement Residence in 2002 when they were 86 and 89. Norma died August 10, 2005, on their third anniversary. Vern was always very proud of his four and a half years in the Army, serving two and a half years in the Aleutians during WWII. He was a life long member of DAV and the American Legion. Working since he was 13, he held numerous jobs for 55 years the majority managing automobile dealerships. He retired in 1980. During his life he survived some 25 surgeries. Vern had strong hands and a warm heart. He was a devoted family man and a loving Christian. Always easy-going, he had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed! Private Interment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life service at a later date at Union Printers' Home.
