Notes for Alice Lambert
From Find-a-Grave: Alice Lambert was born about 1554 in Semley, Wiltshire, England. She was the daughter of John Lambert and Catherine Packington. On October 23, 1575, she married John Haynes. The marriage of John Haynes and Alice Lambert is found in the parish register of St. Mary's Church in Sherbourne, Dorset, England. Alice and John had at least six children, one or more of them born in Sutton Mandeville, Wiltshire. One of their sons, Walter, emigrated to New England with his family in 1638. John died before 1621, because Alice, in her will, written on March 2, 1621, calls herself a widow, of Semley. Her will was proved in early 1624, so she probably died in late 1623 in Semley. In her will, she says she is to be buried in the churchyard at Semley, at the church of St. Leonard's.
Alice’s will is found in the NEHGR, vol. 39, p 263. Will of Alice Hayne, widow, of Semley, Wiltshire, dated March 2, 1620/1. Proved by Walter Haynes, March 2, 1623/4. Alice was the mother of Walter, who was born in 1583. She makes bequests to daughter Elizabeth Read, daughter Rose and son-in-law Andrew Ivie, son Walter, his daughters Elizabeth, Suffraine & Marie, his son Thomas. Elizabeth Haynes was probably the daughter that married Roger Goard and stayed in England. Thomas, Sufferance and Mary came to New England with Walter in 1638.
